Lines of research
PPGEL has a unique area of concentration - Linguistics, in which three lines of research are gathered:
DISCURSIVE PRACTICES AND SUBJECTIVES:
This line brings together research that aims to investigate the production of meanings and subjectivities, from the discursive perspective, through the analysis of policies and processes of signification and constitution of subjects in different significant materialities. It mobilizes the notion of boundary, whether it is knowledge, languages, discourses, contemporary subjectivities.
DIVERSITY AND LANGUAGE CHANGE
This line is oriented towards the development of research on phenomena in variation and/or linguistic change of Brazilian Portuguese and the situations of bilingualism or languages in contact in the Great Frontier Mesoregion of Mercosur and its surroundings, from the perspective of variational sociolinguistics and pluridimensional dialectology analysis for comparison of the results between the varieties of the Southern Region and among other Brazilian regions. Both approaches include the study of native and allochthonous languages in synchronic and diachronic samples.
LANGUAGE AND COGNITION: LANGUAGE REPRESENTATION AND PROCESSING:
This line brings together research on the relationship between language and cognition. The works propose the theoretical and/or experimental investigation of language processing phenomena and the research of the processes of representation of linguistic structures in their semantic, syntactic and lexical aspects.
