  1. Program’s Introduction

Science Teaching as a Field of Study: Science Teaching’s Field of Study is focused on new movements that come from the influences of curricular researches, conceptual approaches, teaching and learning theories, teaching methodologies, content approach and teaching purposes and teacher training processes. The different dimensions of Science Teaching’s Field of Study enable us to envisage a profitable field for the development of research in different fields, such as: Science’s History and Philosophy, Pedagogical Practices and Contexts, Teaching Practices, Concept Learning Processes, Evaluation, Curricula and Educational Policies, Initial and Continuing Teacher Training, Communication and Information Technologies, Didactic Materials, Contemporary Themes, among other sub-areas and possible research themes (Health Education, CTS [Science, Technology, and Society] Approaches, Environmental Education, Identities, Gender, among others) . The treatment of contents and teaching are intended to be developed in the PPGEC as pedagogical contextualizing discourses and scientific knowledge in the interaction with everyday knowledge to produce meanings for the appropriation and signification of scholarly knowledge, which demonstrates the strong connection of the specificities of the Science (Biology, Physics, and Chemistry) in articulation as a field of Science Teaching. The research-action is taken as a path that favors a high level formation allied to a purposeful formation with the transformation of the Science Teaching, deeming the issue of the search for knowledges and teaching practices as guideline of the field and the issue of theoretical-methodological and evaluative mediation of educational practices from a dialogical, socio-historical and cultural perspective, as a component of teacher education.
