Presentation

The Postgraduate Programme in Geography (PPGGeo), in its Master's degree, is the first programme on an intercampus basis of Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul (UFFS), involving the campuses in Chapecó/SC and Erechim/RS, 100 km distance between both cities. Recommended by CAPES in October 2018, PPGGeo aims at providing human resources training in Geography, improving academic and scientific skills that are essential to perform research activities, teaching practice and others related to the labour market and social life.

The following three initial assumptions that fostered the creation of PPGGeo are:

a) Demand for qualified professionals generated by education institutions, companies, social movements, non-profit organisations and public bodies of the region;

b) Importance of building interfaces with other areas of knowledge and popular knowledge, remaining and reinforcing Geography as a science that concerns about the society-nature relationship and social and spatial expressions that arise from this relationship in an open interdisciplinary discussion;

c) Need for growth in the number of scientists and the impact of science in Brazil, especially with regard to the inland expansion of excellent research centres.

From these assumptions, PPGGeo is presented in order to develop training, research, and discussion processes with the community in Centre and West Regions of Santa Catarina and Northwest of Rio Grande do Sul.
