Research Focus Area: Nature, society and space

The space is geographically understood as condition, product and development process of the society and its interaction with nature. When building Geography as a science in its epistemological intersections, the understanding of the geographic space was created from the related perspective in order to cover the dynamics established between the social subjects and nature, producing crosses and spatialities in different scales.

Therefore, the research focus area "Nature, society and space" focuses on the analysis of space, which cannot be understood separately in Geography as a datum at first, but also considering the influences on the constant flow of the society. In particular, it is highlighted by means of two lines of research, its urban-regional and socio-natural features, including its ways of representation, focusing on the understanding of social and/or natural processes and society-nature relationships, expressed by the urban and rural spaces. This research focus area reaches spatial approaches involving categories (such as place, territory, regional and landscape), and concepts (such as milieu, environment, scale, urban, rural, city, country, network, and border). Transversally, it is covered by the understanding of such processes, categories, and concepts in analytical perspectives of research and geographical education on many issues related to social life.
