Student Agreement Program

Opportunities for international students to study at the Federal University of the Southern Border



The Student Agreement Program is a cooperation initiative between Brazil and other developing countries that offers higher education opportunities to international students. It is coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Education (MEC). At UFFS, it is managed by the Agency for Internationalization and Technological Innovation (AGIITEC), through the Division of International Relations (DRI), offering places in undergraduate programs to foreign students. It is an educational, scientific, and technological cooperation initiative between Brazil and other countries. At the Federal University of the Southern Frontier, we welcome students to study, grow, and build their futures.



Program Modalities at UFFS 

 I – The Undergraduate Student Agreement Program – PEC-G; 

II – The Portuguese as a Foreign Language Student Agreement Program – PEC-PLE;

 III – The Graduate Student Agreement Program – PEC-PG. PEC-G includes PEC-PLE, a language training program for students who need to improve their Portuguese skills before beginning their university studies. 

PEC-PG is a graduate-level program.

 At UFFS, we offer the PEC-G and PEC-PLE programs.

LIBRARY 

   The university has a central library with quiet spaces for study and research. It offers: A wide selection of books and academic materials ,access to an online library for digital reading, a physical book lending system for studying. 


Student Spaces and Nature 

 The campus offers several student-friendly spaces, such as places to relax, socialize, and enjoy the scenery, sports courts like volleyball courts, and green areas that create a peaceful and nature-friendly environment.


UNIVERSITY RESTAURANT AND CANTEEN

    The university has a restaurant and a canteen available to students.  The restaurant operates on two schedules:      

  •   Lunch: 11:00 am to 1:15 pm  
  • Dinner: 5:45pm to 7:30pm

 prices :

  •  student R$ 2.50  
  •  visitors: r$ 15  

The canteen is open during the day and in the evening, offering snacks, drinks and quick meals.


Academic Calendar 

 The academic calendar is updated annually and can be accessed on the university’s official website, usually under the “Courses” or “Undergraduate” section.


Public Transportation 

 Chapecó has a bus system with routes that connect the city’s neighborhoods to the university. The line that serves UFFS is Line 24 – Universidade Federal, operated by the company Autoviação Chapecó. Bus fare: R$ 4.40 (approximately USD 1.00) 

 There are three types of bus cards : 

  •  Student Card 
  •  Worker´s / Employee Card 
  •  Citizen Card (general use) 

 Undergraduate students at UFFS are entitled to a discounted fare only during the academic term, according to the academic calendar. Outside of this period, the full fare is charged. 

 The university advises students to apply for the Student Card after their arrival.



TEAM AND SUPPORT  

  The university has a welcoming staff and an International Office to support international students throughout their academic journey.


Housing / Accommodation


 UFFS does not offer student housing and does not arrange accommodation for students. Each student is responsible for finding and booking their own place to stay. 

 Average monthly rent: between R$ 600.00 and R$ 1,000.00 (approximately USD 120.00 to USD 200.00). Prices vary depending on the location and type of accommodation. It is possible to rent rooms in houses or local guesthouses.

 The university usually provides useful links and information to help students search for temporary housing before arriving in Chapecó.


Weather / Winter in Chapecó 

 Chapecó has a tropical climate, but winters (from June to September) can be quite harsh. Temperatures at night and early morning can drop to 0ºC or even lower. 

 It is recommended to bring: 

  •  Warm clothing: socks, gloves, hats, coats/jackets, and pants 
  •  Appropriate footwear (sneakers or closed shoes)
  • Bedding: sheets, pillows, blankets, and comforters
